Sharing Memories of 500 Concerts in Koerner Hall

Koerner Hall

Everybody loves Koerner Hall…but Koerner Hall is not just an auditorium. It stands at the apex of an ambitious, multi-disciplinary programming season (The Globe and Mail)

Tonight we celebrate an important milestone: the 500th concert in the history of Koerner Hall. First opened on September 25, 2009, Koerner Hall represents the final phase in the transformation of our national headquarters, the TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning. In its brief history, Koerner Hall has become recognized as one of the finest concert halls in the world. Artists and audiences alike have hailed the beauty of its architecture, the excellence of its acoustics, and the diversity of its performances. More than 5,000 artists hailing from more than 100 countries have played on our stage for over 500,000 audience members.

In honour of this landmark event, we asked our Facebook followers to share their fondest memories of Koerner Hall. Our favourites appear below:

I could not sit still through [Angélique Kidjo’s] amazing concert! [It] was the most energetic, passionate, inspiring event and we sat behind the drummer above the stage. I vibrated and percussed to my soul’s delight. It was magical, musical memories for a lifetime. (Jodi Pape)

I really enjoyed watching my childhood idol Sarah Chang’s performance just last month! (Seoyoung Ahn)

Too many to name! The acoustics are just fabulous. Beautiful design. (Opehila Chang)

[The] cream of the crop of The Glenn Gould School of The Royal Conservatory—best Koerner Hall moment. (Adam Daniel Mezei)

I recall taking my mother to a concert there for the very first time…some months after the hall first opened. It was an early birthday present for her, and she absolutely adored the experience. We’ve been back a number of times since, and she always has glowing things to say about the acoustics, the performers, and the staff. It’s become her favourite concert hall, and mine! (Heather Rosen)

Thank you to our sponsors and supporters, and to everyone who has visited the hall over the last six years. We hope to see you again for many years to come!
