About This Event

Students from the Glenn Gould School’s vocal program present their annual fall opera, Pauline Viardot’s Cendrillon. First performed in 1904, Viardot wrote Cendrillon as a performance piece for her salon series. An accomplished singer who created roles for Gounod and Meyerbeer, Viardot wrote this chamber opera to be performed for her social circle which included the likes of Hector Berlioz, Camille Saint-Säens, and Frédéric Chopin.

Directed by Joel Ivany, this production transforms Mazzoleni Hall into an early 20th century Parisian salon with contemporary twists. Peter Tiefenbach serves as Music Director.
