About This Event

Celebrating the 200th anniversary of Liszt’s birth, Canadian pianist Louie Lortie returns to the Koerner Hall stage to perform the complete Années de pèlerinage (Years of Pilgrimage), a virtuosic, highly varied, genuinely moving masterwork that musically details Liszt’s travels through Switzerland, Italy, and finally back home to Hungary. The Orange County Register described Lortie’s performance of this work as “nothing less than astonishing, faultlessly acrobatic and superbly poetic, everything shaped and polished with care.”

Join us for a 60-minute pre-concert chat by Dr. Alan Walker: “Liszt and the Keyboard: the Wizard Casts his Spells” Dr. Walker, a respected musicologist and professor, is the author of numerous books on Liszt, including Reflections on Liszt, which was released in paperback in August 2011. His presentation is free for ticket buyers of the Louis Lortie performance, and will take place in the lobby of Koerner Hall starting at 11:30am.
