"It's the sound of romance. Horns sing with reeds and strings, seeming to set the very air dancing to the rhythms of waltzes, fox trots and pasodobles. A man, dressed impeccably in tie and tails, steps up to a mike and, in a focused, rounded falsetto, completes the close, perfect harmony." The L.A. Times.

Palast Orchester
Founded in 1986 by the charismatic baritone Max Raabe, Max Raabe & Palast Orchester embodies the high style and musical glory of the 1920s and the 1930s. Performing over 150 concerts a year, they have been heard by audiences in the United States, Shanghai, Paris, Berlin, Moscow, Tokyo, Los Angeles, Vienna, Amsterdam, and Rome.
Max Raabe captures the timeless music of the early 20th century with precision, urgency, and irony. His art lies in revealing the enigmatic intelligence, ambiguity, musical power, and complexity of the "German chansons" from the turbulent Weimar Republic. The repertoire of the Palast Orchester encompasses more than 500 songs, including classics like I'll Kiss Your Hand, Dear Lady, Cheek to Cheek, You're the Cream in My Coffee, as well as more American and German standards from that era such as Ninon, Salomé, Irgendwo Auf Der Welt, and finally new stylistic adaptations of contemporary songs and original compositions.
Palast Orchester's highlights have included the opening of the Viennese Festival Weeks, their 10th anniversary concert for an audience of 20,000 at Berlin's Wald-bühne, and sold out debut concerts in New York.

This is Palast Orchester's first performance at The Royal Conservatory and their Canadian debut.
