Bach: Violin Concerto in A Minor, BWV 1041
Bach: Violin Concerto in D Minor, BWV 1052
Bach: Concerto for Two Violins in D Minor, BWV 1043
Bach: Concerto for Three Violins in D Major, BWV 1064R

It is a tribute not only to Johann Sebastian Bach, but to the violin, too! Three international-calibre artists – the Concertmasters of the Toronto and Montréal Symphony Orchestras, and James Ehnes – headline this marvelous evening of Concertos by Bach, the immortal master. Ehnes takes the spotlight for two magnificent solo Concertos. He is joined by Jonathan Crow for the touching and profound Double Concerto, and by Crow and Andrew Wan for the joyous Triple Concerto. The Double Concerto probably dates from Bach’s six-year term as Director of Music to Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Cöthen (1717-1723). The main violinists of the Prince’s court orchestra had been recruited from Berlin, and it is likely that Bach composed this Concerto with them specifically in mind. The D Minor Solo Concerto and the Triple Concerto were long known in versions featuring harpsichords, but research as shown that the original versions probably featured violins instead.
