Mozart: String Quartet No. 4 in C Major, K. 157
Jordan Pal: Octet (world premiere, supported by the Ontario Arts Council)
Barnes: Lamentations of Jeremiah, for viola solo
Dvořák: Piano Quintet No. 2 in A Major, Op. 91

Five seasoned artists pool their talents for this intriguing program. Selections range from a sunny String Quartet that the 16-year-old Mozart composed while visiting Milan, Italy, for the premiere of his commissioned opera, Lucio Silla, to Czech master Dvořák’s rich and genial Piano Quintet No. 2. Created in a happily intensive six weeks in 1887 at his restful, inspiring home in the Czech countryside, the Quintet is one of his greatest and most popular chamber works, a piece fully worthy to stand with the Piano Quintets of Schumann and Brahms. This performance will feature pianist Stéphane Lemelin, of whom the Washington Post wrote, “Lemelin’s touch throughout this absorbing recital evoked both the troubadour and the magician.” David Harding, a widely experienced and much recorded violist, performs the soulful Lamentations of Jeremiah by the esteemed Canadian composer Milton Barnes. The concert also includes the world premiere of the Octet by Jordan Pal, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s Juno-nominated RBC Affiliate Composer. The performance will include several TSMF Academy Fellows.
